In a recent exclusive interview, Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the Modi government's firm stance on Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the abrogation of Article 370 and subsequent anti-terror measures have unequivocally conveyed to the world that "Kashmir is India's". Shah highlighted that the removal of Article 370 served as a pivotal move in securing India's borders and gaining control over terrorism in the region.
Shah has consistently maintained that the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was a crucial step towards eradicating terrorism and fostering lasting peace in the region. He stated that the decision removed a significant barrier to the region's complete integration with the rest of India. Shah has also credited Prime Minister Modi's leadership for the government's "zero-tolerance policy" towards terrorism, contrasting it with previous administrations.
The Home Minister has also pointed out the tangible improvements in the region since the revocation of Article 370. He noted a significant decline in terrorist activities, with a 70% reduction in deaths due to terrorism. Shah stated that the involvement of Indian youth in terrorist activities has also decreased significantly. Furthermore, he highlighted the resumption of normal life in Kashmir, with cinema halls reopening and the Muharram procession, previously banned for decades, taking place.
In addition to security improvements, Shah has emphasized the Modi government's commitment to the region's economic development. He mentioned that an attractive industrial policy has led to substantial investments in Jammu and Kashmir, with thousands of crores already realized and many more memorandums of understanding signed. These initiatives aim to boost employment opportunities and improve the overall economic landscape of the region.
Shah has also lauded the creation of two Union Territories as a way to revitalize the languages of Kashmir. He stressed the importance of giving importance to every language spoken in Kashmir and including them in the region's development.
The Home Minister has directly criticized previous administrations for their allegedly lenient approach towards terrorism and for allowing separatist sentiments to fester. He argued that Article 370 had "sown the seeds of separatism" in the region, which ultimately fueled terrorism. Shah has asserted that the Modi government's decisive actions have not only curbed terrorism but also dismantled the terror ecosystem in the valley.
Moreover, Shah has emphasized that terrorists are no longer glorified in the region. He noted that funerals for terrorists, once a common sight, have ceased, and terrorists are now buried on the spot. The government has also taken strong action against those who support terrorism, including removing them from government positions and seizing properties.
Shah has credited PM Modi's leadership for transforming India from the 11th to the 4th largest economy. He predicted India will become the 3rd largest economy by 2027.
