The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party has been rocked by the suspension of K. Kavitha, daughter of party supremo and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. The suspension was a direct consequence of what the party termed "anti-party activities".

The catalyst for this dramatic decision was Kavitha's recent public outburst against senior BRS leaders, specifically her cousins, T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Rao. Kavitha accused them of corruption related to the Kaleshwaram project and of conspiring to undermine her father's image. She went so far as to question the very survival of the BRS party if KCR was forced to face a CBI inquiry, alleging that Harish Rao and Santosh Rao had accumulated vast assets and blinded KCR to their actions.

These accusations were particularly damaging as Harish Rao had been leading the BRS's defense against corruption allegations surrounding the Kaleshwaram project. The BRS leadership viewed Kavitha's remarks as the final straw, leading to her immediate suspension. The party released a statement emphasizing that Kavitha's recent behavior and attitude were causing significant damage and that the leadership had taken the matter seriously.

Kavitha's suspension marks the culmination of months of simmering tensions within the BRS. Insiders suggest that she felt sidelined within the party, believing her brother, KT Rama Rao, was given preferential treatment. Further fueling the discord was the fact that KCR reportedly did not visit Kavitha even once during her imprisonment in 2024 following her arrest by the ED and CBI. Kavitha reportedly felt the party should have offered her more support during this difficult period.

In the wake of Kavitha's suspension, reactions have been varied. Party workers were quick to remove her images from BRS offices, and in some areas, her portraits were burned in protest. Meanwhile, her supporters gathered to denounce the suspension as unjust. Other political parties have weighed in on the situation, with the Congress and BJP leaders describing the events within the BRS as an "internal family squabble" stemming from the distribution of "loot from corruption".

Kavitha has called for a press conference on Wednesday, where sources speculate she may announce her resignation as an MLC and from the BRS.
