Yograj Singh, the father of famed Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, has once again found himself in the midst of controversy after making a rather unusual statement regarding his son's marriage to actress Hazel Keech. In a recent interview, Yograj revealed that he had expressed a desire for Yuvraj to "change the breed" and marry an Irish or English girl.
Yograj Singh, known for his outspoken nature, shared his thoughts on Yuvraj's marriage in a conversation with Krishnank Atrey on his YouTube channel. He stated that he faced pressure from society to get Yuvraj married in his 20s, but he resisted, wanting his son to focus on his career. Yograj said, "People wanted me to marry Yuvraj off in his 20s. I said, 'Is he old already?'". It was only when Yuvraj turned 38 that Yograj felt he was ready to consider marriage. He told Yuvraj, "Now you can think about it. It's your life, so find your partner".
However, Yograj also admitted that he had one specific request for his son: "But I did request him to change the breed". He elaborated, "People hearing this might oppose it, but we wanted an Irish or English girl in the family". Yuvraj Singh ultimately married Hazel Keech in November 2016. While not Irish or English, Hazel is of British and Indo-Mauritian heritage.
Despite his initial preference, Yograj has embraced Hazel as his own. "And then Hazel came into our lives," he said. He further added, "They (Hazel and Yuvraj) have such beautiful kids, and they treat me like their friend. I don't call Hazel my daughter-in-law, she is my daughter". Yuvraj and Hazel have two children, a son named Orion and a daughter named Aura.
Yograj also addressed the criticism he has faced for his strict parenting and training methods. He revealed that his own family was against him, with some claiming he would "kill" Yuvraj. Yograj stated that Yuvraj even called him "Hitler" and "Dragon". However, Yograj remains firm in his belief that his methods were instrumental in Yuvraj's success.
Notably, Yograj Singh did not attend Yuvraj and Hazel's wedding. According to reports, this was due to Yograj's disapproval of Yuvraj and his mother's faith in Dera Baba, as Yograj had made it clear that he would not attend any ceremony involving a religious guru.
