Following his death, a dispute arose between his family members regarding the succession and division of his assets. At the heart of the dispute is Sunjay Kapur's estimated Rs 30,000 crore estate, comprising shares, properties, business holdings, and family trusts.
Karisma Kapoor, who was married to Sunjay Kapur from 2003 to 2016, has approached the Delhi High Court on behalf of their two children, Samaira and Kiaan, seeking their rightful share in their father's estate. The children have contested a will dated March 21, 2025, which leaves Sunjay's entire personal estate to his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur. They have alleged that the will is "forged, fabricated, and surrounded by suspicious circumstances". They claim their father had “repeatedly assured” them of their share, but that this promise was not honored in his final will.
Priya Sachdev Kapur has denied the allegations, with her lawyers arguing that there is enough evidence to show the will in question was created and executed before her husband's death. Kapur's lawyers have also disclosed that assets worth around Rs 1,900 crore have been transferred to the plaintiff siblings. Priya has moved to submit her late husband's full asset list in a sealed cover, citing fears of leaks and misuse. The court has questioned Priya Kapur's request to submit details of her late husband's personal assets and liabilities in a sealed cover. Justice Jyoti Singh said allowing Priya's request could create difficulties for the children in defending their claim. The High Court will hear the matter again on Friday, when it is expected to consider the maintainability of Priya Kapur's application and address the competing claims raised in the high-profile dispute.

According to an NDTV report, the counsel representing Karisma's children was referring to bank account details of the purported will belonging to Sunjay Kapur.
