Assam Police Restricts Leave for Personnel: Preparing for Rahul Gandhi's Upcoming Visit and Ensuring Security.

In anticipation of Rahul Gandhi's visit, the Assam Police have canceled all leaves for its personnel. The move aims to ensure adequate security and maintain law and order during the Congress leader's visit.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on October 17, 2025, to pay tribute to the late singer Zubeen Garg. He is expected to visit Garg's resting place and meet with his family.

The decision to cancel leaves comes against the backdrop of recent unrest in the Baksa region. Clashes reportedly erupted following the relocation of individuals accused in connection with Garg's death case. In response to the disturbances, authorities have also suspended internet services in the area.

The Chief Minister has stated that a team will travel to Singapore in pursuit of justice related to the case.

The police department's action highlights the heightened security measures being implemented in light of both Gandhi's visit and the prevailing regional tensions. The cancellation of leaves ensures maximum personnel availability for maintaining peace and order. Field officers have been instructed to remain vigilant and proactive in preventing any potential disturbances. They are also expected to maintain close communication with all stakeholders and cooperate fully with relevant authorities to ensure effective law and order management.

This is not the first time Rahul Gandhi's visit to Assam has coincided with security concerns. In January 2024, clashes broke out between Congress workers and police in Guwahati during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. At that time, Gandhi criticized the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of corruption. He also dared the Assam Police to file more FIRs against him, asserting that he would not be intimidated.
