Nanjing, China - In a historic achievement, Jyothi Surekha Vennam has become the first Indian woman compound archer to win a medal at the Archery World Cup Final. The decorated archer clinched the bronze medal with a flawless performance on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
Vennam's journey to the podium began with a confident 143-140 victory over Alexis Ruiz of the USA in the quarterfinals. However, she faced a setback in the semifinals, narrowly losing to world No. 1 Andrea Becerra of Mexico 143-145. Despite briefly leading, Becerra's strong finish secured her spot in the final.
Undeterred, the 29-year-old Asian Games champion showcased her resilience in the bronze medal match against world No. 2 Ella Gibson of Great Britain. Vennam was at her best, shooting 15 perfect arrows to prevail with a score of 150-145. This victory secured her maiden podium finish at the prestigious season-ending tournament.
This was Jyothi's third appearance at the World Cup Final, having previously competed at the Tlaxcala (2022) and Hermosillo (2023) editions, where she exited in the opening round. Her bronze medal marks a significant improvement in her World Cup Final journey.
Vennam's historic win marks her 88th career medal. She has now won medals at all major compound archery competitions, including the World Championships, World Games, Asian Games and now the World Cup Final.
Madhura Dhamangaonkar, India's other qualifier in the women's compound section, faced an opening-round exit, losing 142-145 to Mariana Bernal of Mexico. In the men's compound section, Rishabh Yadav is the lone Indian contender, scheduled to compete against Kim Jongho of South Korea. No Indian archer qualified in the recurve section this year.
