Pakistan's Ceasefire Violations: Border Shelling and Drone Activity Prompt Strong Indian Response Along the Border.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated dramatically this week, marked by a series of ceasefire breaches, drone incursions, and retaliatory actions. Despite an agreement to halt military action, shelling and drone attacks have continued across the border, raising concerns about regional stability.

The recent surge in hostilities began with a deadly militant attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. India responded with "Operation Sindoor," unleashing missiles on alleged terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. This was followed by a coordinated wave of drone attacks launched by Pakistan, targeting military infrastructure across multiple locations in India, from Leh to Sir Creek. Indian forces successfully repelled these attacks.

In response to the drone incursions and continued shelling, the Indian Army destroyed key Pakistani posts and terrorist launch pads near Jammu, which they say were being used to launch tube-launched drones. The Indian military has stated that it is committed to safeguarding the nation's integrity and will respond forcefully to any further violations.

Pakistan has denied launching cross-border attacks and has instead accused Indian forces of sending drones into Pakistani territory. They also claim to have shot down numerous Indian drones in recent days. However, these claims have been refuted by Indian officials.

The ongoing conflict has had a severe impact on civilian populations on both sides of the border. Local officials have reported intense artillery exchanges, resulting in casualties and damage to property. Blackouts have been imposed in several districts in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as parts of Punjab and Rajasthan. Residents have been advised to stay indoors, and markets and airports have been closed in some areas.

Amidst the escalating tensions, there have been calls for restraint from world powers, including the United States and China. According to President Trump, the US mediated talks between India and Pakistan, which resulted in both countries agreeing to a full and immediate ceasefire. Pakistan's deputy PM affirmed that it has "always strived for peace and security in the region".

Despite the ceasefire announcement, reports of shelling and firing across the Line of Control (LoC) continue to surface. India has stated that it remains on high alert and that the ceasefire will only hold if there are no further violations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has reiterated India's firm stance against terrorism and its commitment to maintaining regional stability.

The situation remains tense, and the potential for further escalation is a major concern. While diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate the conflict and ensure that the ceasefire holds, the situation on the ground remains volatile.
