A soldier was killed on Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri sector after the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC). The infiltration bid occurred in the Churunda area of Uri, Baramulla district.
During the exchange of fire, one soldier was killed. According to sources, the infiltration attempt may have been supported by Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT). The intruders reportedly received firing support from the Pakistan Army. Following the incident, a search operation was launched in the dense forest area. Drones and army helicopters have been deployed to aid in the search.
The Army has not yet officially confirmed the BAT attack. Sources indicated that there was heavy gunfire between the BAT team and the army. Taking advantage of the darkness and bad weather, the BAT team reportedly retreated.
The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army expressed condolences for the loss of life. They acknowledged the soldier's sacrifice while performing operational duty along the LoC in Uri.
This incident follows another recent loss of life in the same area. On Tuesday, Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar died while performing operational duty along the LoC in the Baramulla district. The Chinar Corps also mourned his death and saluted his valor and sacrifice.
Security remains high in Jammu and Kashmir in the lead-up to Independence Day. Multi-tier security arrangements are in place at the main venue for Independence Day celebrations in Srinagar.
In another development, security forces recovered arms, ammunition, and narcotics from the Allachizab forests of Kupwara district on Wednesday. The recovered items included a Chinese pistol, magazines, ammunition, grenades, an IED, detonators, and packets of brown sugar.
