Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Bengaluru campus of Adichunchanagiri University and BGS Medical College and Hospital on Friday, June 20, 2025, marking a significant step towards enhancing higher education and healthcare infrastructure in the region. The event, held at the BGS MCH Campus in Nagarur, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, was organized by the Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math.
During the inauguration, Shah emphasized the central government's commitment to strengthening higher education and providing accessible healthcare, particularly for the underprivileged. He lauded the efforts of the Adichunchanagiri Math in the field of education and service to society. He specifically praised Swami Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji for his contributions to reaching out to all sections of society through service.
The newly inaugurated campus, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 200 crore on 17 acres, includes an educational center spanning 20,000 square feet, capable of accommodating 4,000 students. A modern, 1,000-bed hospital equipped with super-speciality facilities has also been established on the campus. Notably, the hospital will provide free and concessional treatment to the poor, while education will be offered at affordable prices. Shah expressed his confidence that the institution will emerge as one of the largest in the country.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for affordable healthcare, recalling Modi's statement from 26 years ago about poverty stemming from illness and the high cost of treatment. Shah proudly affirmed that the government has translated this vision into reality through various initiatives in the health sector, significantly benefiting marginalized and weaker sections of society.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways V. Somanna, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka, and Karnataka Minister for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil, along with spiritual leaders such as Swami Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji and Swami Paramatmananda Saraswatiji. Amit Shah inaugurated the university campus, medical college, and hospital by lighting the lamp in the presence of Swami Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji.
In addition to inaugurating the Adichunchanagiri University campus, Amit Shah is scheduled to embark on a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh, where he will inaugurate key central government institutions and meet with security personnel and local communities in Naxal-affected districts.
