Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, accompanied by Gauri Spratt, has arrived in Melbourne to attend the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025. Khan is the chief guest at the 16th edition of the festival, which will run from August 14th to 24th.

Khan's presence at IFFM 2025 is expected to significantly elevate the festival, drawing larger crowds and increased media attention. The festival serves as a platform to showcase the creativity and diversity of Indian cinema to a global audience. Khan's participation underscores his global appeal and highlights the role of Indian cinema in bridging cultures.

During the festival, Aamir Khan will participate in several key events, including the ceremonial lighting of the lamp to inaugurate the festival. He will also hoist the Indian National Flag at Federation Square. This gesture symbolizes the connection between Indian cinema and its international audience.

A major highlight of IFFM 2025 will be a special screening of Aamir Khan's recently released film, Sitaare Zameen Par. The film, directed by R. S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, is a spiritual successor to Khan's 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. Sitaare Zameen Par stars Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh. The film is a remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions and tells the story of a suspended basketball coach who mentors a team of players with disabilities.

Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange has called Khan “a cinematic legend” whose work reflects “sensitivity, depth, and a fearless commitment to storytelling". Khan stated he was "humbled and thrilled" to be part of the event. A retrospective of Khan's career will also take place, showcasing some of his most acclaimed work, including Taare Zameen Par, Lagaan, PK, Dangal, and Secret Superstar.

IFFM 2025 will screen nearly 75 films reflecting themes of inclusivity, including gender, race, sexuality, disability, and women's representation. One of the festival's highlights is the LGBTQ+ Pride Night on August 22nd. The festival commenced with a press conference attended by figures from the Indian film industry and the Victorian Government.
