The first glimpse of the highly anticipated film 'Ramayana' is finally here, and it's generating significant buzz among fans. Producer Namit Malhotra has unveiled the first look, offering a sneak peek into the cinematic universe being created. The film boasts a stellar cast, with Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana. Sai Pallavi is set to play Sita, Sunny Deol will portray Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey will be seen as Lakshmana.

Malhotra shared the first look on Instagram with the caption: “Ten years of Aspiration. Relentless Conviction to bring the Greatest Epic of all time to the World. An outcome through a collaboration of some of the world's best to ensure that Ramayana is presented with the greatest amount of Reverence and Respect. Welcome to the Beginning. Let's Celebrate the IMMORTAL story of Rama v/s Ravana. Our Truth. Our History.”.

The initial reactions to the first look have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the visual effects. Some fans expressed getting "goosebumps". The film's VFX has particularly caught the attention of viewers, with some describing it as "Hollywood-level". The visual grandeur of ancient India is being reimagined by production designers Ravi Bansal (Dune: Part Two, Aladdin) and Ramsey Avery (Captain America, Tomorrowland).

Namit Malhotra, founder of Prime Focus and CEO of DNEG, emphasized the cultural significance of the project, stating, “This is a cultural movement for every Indian around the world. With Ramayana, we're not just retelling history; we're introducing our legacy to the world". He further added, "Bringing together the finest global talent allows us to tell this story with authenticity, emotion, and state-of-the-art cinematic innovation". Malhotra believes that this version of Ramayana reimagines its landscapes, creatures, and battles with the scale and splendor they deserve and it is a gift to the world.

The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and is planned as a two-part epic. Part 1 is slated for release in Diwali 2026, with Part 2 following in Diwali 2027. 'Ramayana' is filmed for IMAX and is powered by visual effects from DNEG and ReDefine. The film also marks the first collaboration between Oscar-winning music legends Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. The action sequences are choreographed by Terry Notary (Avengers, Planet of the Apes) and Guy Norris (Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa).

The first look offers a striking contrast between Yash, who appears intense as Ravana, and Ranbir Kapoor, who embodies a calm and composed Lord Rama. The glimpse also showcases Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva, hinting at the film's expansive mythological canvas.

'Ramayana' is not just a film but a cultural milestone in storytelling. With a reported budget of around $100 million (Rs 835 crore), the first installment is said to be the costliest film ever made in India. The unveiling of the first look was celebrated as a cultural movement, blending traditional mythology with cutting-edge cinematic techniques and global creative collaborations.
