A massive cloudburst struck the Chishoti area in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Thursday, August 14, 2025, triggering panic among locals and washing away a "Langer" (community kitchen) shed. The administration has initiated rescue efforts, with teams dispatched to the affected site. Damage assessment and arrangements for medical management are also being carried out.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh stated that he spoke with the Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, after receiving urgent communication from the Leader of the Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir and local MLA Sunil Kumar Sharma. Cloudbursts, floods, and landslides have caused substantial loss of life and property in the Himalayan region. Recent incidents include a landslide blocking the Jammu-Rajouri National Highway and a cloudburst in Uttarkashi that left several people missing, including army personnel.
In response to the Uttarkashi cloudburst, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the Army completed the construction of a Bailey bridge in Dharali to restore a vital link. The bridge connecting Uttarkashi to Harsil was reconstructed to facilitate the movement of machinery and relief materials.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation in Kishtwar and providing all possible assistance. The focus remains on rescue operations, damage assessment, and providing medical aid to those affected.
