The honeymoon trip to Meghalaya turned into a nightmare for the Raghuvanshi family as Raja Raghuvanshi, a newlywed from Indore, was allegedly murdered. In a shocking turn of events, police have arrested his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, in connection with the crime. After nearly two weeks of being "missing," Sonam surrendered at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.
Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) I Nongrang revealed that Sonam is suspected of hiring contract killers to murder her husband. According to the DGP, three other individuals believed to be involved in the murder have been arrested in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The arrested suspects have reportedly confessed that Sonam hired them to carry out the crime. The police investigation is still ongoing, with authorities in Madhya Pradesh working to apprehend any remaining individuals connected to the case.
The tragic incident unfolded after Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23, 2025, while honeymooning in the East Khasi Hills area of Meghalaya. A week later, Raja's body was discovered in a ditch, while Sonam was nowhere to be found, leading to an intensive search operation.
The breakthrough in the case came swiftly, with Meghalaya police achieving success within seven days. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has lauded the efforts of the police force in cracking the case that has sent shockwaves throughout the state and the nation. He confirmed the arrest of three assailants from Madhya Pradesh and Sonam's surrender, adding that operations are underway to catch one more assailant.
While the police investigation is proceeding rapidly, Raja's family had previously expressed their dissatisfaction with the Meghalaya police and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a CBI inquiry into the matter. Raja's brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, stated that he believes a CBI investigation is necessary to bring justice to Raja and locate Sonam.
The arrest of Sonam Raghuvanshi and the ongoing investigation mark a significant development in the case. As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to bring Sonam back to Meghalaya to face charges. The police are also working to determine the motive behind the alleged murder and uncover the full extent of the conspiracy. The post-mortem report is still awaited to ascertain whether Raja was killed before or after falling into the gorge.
