A building collapse in Delhi's Daryaganj area has resulted in the deaths of three people. The incident occurred on Wednesday near Sadbhavna Park in central Delhi.
Authorities received information about the collapse at approximately 12:14 PM, prompting the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) to dispatch four fire tenders to the scene. The building, described as having a ground floor and two additional floors, had partially collapsed.
Firefighters and rescue personnel immediately began working to clear the debris. Three individuals were rescued from the wreckage and rushed to a hospital. Sadly, the police confirmed that the three workers died at the scene. The deceased have been identified as Zubair, Gulsagar and Taufiq. Their bodies have been transported to LNJP Hospital.
As of the latest reports, rescue operations are still underway. Civic authorities and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) are also involved in the efforts to clear the debris. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the building collapse and will investigate once the rescue operations are complete.
The incident has prompted responses from political figures. Arvind Kejriwal, a senior leader of AAP, expressed his concern via X (formerly Twitter) regarding an attack on Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and stated that differences in opinion are acceptable in a democracy, but violence is not. Another AAP leader, Atishi, echoed this sentiment, condemning the attack and hoping for the Chief Minister's safety. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva also strongly condemned the attack.
This unfortunate event follows a similar incident in Delhi on July 12, where six members of a family died after an unauthorized four-story residential building collapsed in the Welcome neighborhood. In that incident, eight other people sustained injuries.
