Abhijeet Bhattacharya has stirred up a nostalgic controversy by claiming that the popular song "Gori Gori" from the movie Main Hoon Na was originally intended for him and the late KK to sing. He alleges that music director Anu Malik ultimately took the song for himself.
In a recent interview with Mashable India, Abhijeet recalled his experiences working with Anu Malik, describing him as "crazy" and humorously suggesting that Malik would even want to picturize songs on himself if he had the opportunity. Abhijeet stated that Malik would say, "This song is amazing, I'll sing it, and it should be picturised on me too".
Abhijeet revealed that "Gori Gori" was initially planned as a collaboration between him and KK. However, he claims that Malik ended up singing it. "Uss picture me Gori Gori mera gaana tha. Can you believe that? (Mimicking Anu Malik) Chori chori...ab ye ho gaya. Maine kya gaaya tha - phadu! I think, maine aur KK ne. Baad me dekhta hoon ki bhaisaab unka (Anu Malik) voice aa gaya. Iss gaane (Tumhe jo maine dekha) me bhi aisa hi kuchh hone wala tha", recalled the singer. (Translation: In that film, Gori Gori was my song. Can you believe that? (Mimicking Anu Malik) “Chori chori…” —and now look what it's become. I think, me and KK [sang it]. Later I see that his (Anu Malik's) voice came [in the song]).
The song "Gori Gori" from Main Hoon Na (2004) is credited to singers KK, Anu Malik, Shreya Ghoshal, and Sunidhi Chauhan. The film, directed by Farah Khan, starred Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Sunil Shetty, Amrita Rao, and Zayed Khan. Main Hoon Na is known for its music, composed by Anu Malik, and its blend of action, comedy, romance, and drama.
Abhijeet also added that the song would have been a bigger hit if he had been given more time to rehearse. "(Translation: If only we had rehearsed the song properly beforehand—if he had told me earlier, given me time to prepare,".
Anu Malik has composed several celebrated tracks, including "Gori Gori," "Sau Dard," and "Jaanam Samjha Karo".
