A tragic accident in Kaggalipura, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, claimed the life of a police sub-inspector and left several others injured on Monday. The incident involved a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus which lost control, collided with two motorcycles, and then veered off the road into a roadside drain.

The deceased has been identified as Nagaraj, a 52-year-old sub-inspector attached to the Electronics City traffic police station. Nagaraj was reportedly on his way to Kanakapura when the accident occurred around 10:30 am near the Kaggalipura police station, along the Kanakapura-Bengaluru stretch.

According to police reports, the KSRTC bus was traveling from Kanakapura towards Bengaluru when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus jumped the median, crashing into oncoming two-wheelers. The impact resulted in fatal injuries to Nagaraj, who died on the spot. The bus then toppled over and landed in a roadside drain.

Nagaraj's daughter, Kavya, who was riding pillion with him, sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital. Two other commuters on a separate motorcycle were also injured and admitted to Victoria Hospital. Initial reports indicated that seven passengers from the bus sustained injuries, with two in critical condition. However, later reports stated that bus passengers sustained only minor injuries.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported a chaotic situation as people rushed to help the injured. The injured were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention. Kaggalipura police have registered a case of death due to negligence against the bus driver, who has been taken into custody. Preliminary investigations are underway, with authorities examining whether the accident was caused by mechanical failure or driver negligence. Some reports suggest the driver claimed the vehicle's steering cable snapped, causing him to lose control.

The incident has raised concerns about road safety and the condition of public transport vehicles in the region. Authorities are likely to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The tragic loss of a dedicated police officer and the injuries sustained by others serve as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving and road safety.
