The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final is set to host a special tribute to the Indian Armed Forces, with renowned musician Shankar Mahadevan and his sons, Siddharth and Shivam, scheduled to perform at the closing ceremony. The event will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, just before the anticipated match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
The performance aims to honor the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces, particularly in light of recent events. The tribute is especially significant following Operation Sindoor, India's response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd. This operation, launched on May 7th, resulted in the elimination of over 100 militants associated with various terror groups.
Originally, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) planned a grand event with the presence of the chiefs of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the service chiefs were unable to attend. Despite this, the BCCI has moved forward with revised plans to ensure a memorable and patriotic tribute.
Shankar Mahadevan, a celebrated Bollywood singer and composer, is known for his powerful renditions of patriotic songs that resonate deeply with Indian audiences. Joining him on stage will be his sons, Shivam and Siddharth Mahadevan, both established names in the Indian music industry. Their youthful energy is expected to add a vibrant touch to the evening's performances. The trio will perform a medley of patriotic songs. Some of Shankar Mahadevan's well-known patriotic songs include "Lakshya," "I Love My India," "Kandhon Se Milte Hain Kandhe," and "Ae Watan."
Shivam Mahadevan expressed his excitement about the performance on social media, calling it an "honour" to be a part of the IPL final. The stadium will be adorned with Indian flags, themed lighting, and symbolic tributes, creating a patriotic atmosphere.
The IPL 2025 season faced a week-long suspension due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The matches resumed on May 17th, and the final was rescheduled from May 25th to June 3rd. This backdrop adds further significance to the tribute, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and respect for the armed forces.
The closing ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM IST and will be broadcast on the Star Sports Network. Online streaming will also be available.
