Brad Pitt has recently opened up about his divorce from Angelina Jolie, finalized in December 2024 after eight years of intense legal battles. In a new interview with GQ, the actor addressed the drawn-out proceedings and his perspective on the matter.
When asked if finalizing the divorce brought a sense of relief or a significant change, Pitt downplayed its importance, stating, "No, I don't think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally.” This marks the first time Pitt has spoken publicly about the divorce settlement, which concluded one of Hollywood's most highly publicized and contentious separations.
The divorce proceedings began in 2016 when Jolie filed for divorce days after an alleged incident on a private plane, where she claimed Pitt was abusive toward her and their six children. Investigations were conducted by the FBI and child services, but no charges were filed, and Jolie declined to press charges. Despite being declared legally single in 2019, the couple continued to battle over marital and property rights until reaching a full settlement in December 2024.
Throughout the lengthy legal process, both Pitt and Jolie remained relatively tight-lipped about the details. However, sources close to Pitt have indicated that he is "happy the divorce is behind him" and is now focused on his relationship with his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon. The couple has been seen together at various events, confirming their relationship, which began in 2022. Meanwhile, Jolie's lawyer, James Simon, stated that the actress is "relieved" the settlement has been finalized but described it as "just one part of a long and exhausting legal process."
Pitt also reflected on the constant media attention surrounding his personal life. "It's been in the news for 30 years, bro," he said. "Or some version of my personal life, let's put it that way. It's been an annoyance I've had to always deal with in different degrees, large and small, as I do the things I really want to do. So, it's always been this kind of nagging time suck or waste of time, if you let it be that, I don't know. I don't know. Mostly I feel pretty… My life is fairly contained." He added that his life "feels pretty warm and secure with my friends, with my loves, with my fam, with my knowledge of who I am, that, you know, it's like this fly buzzing around a little bit.”
Pitt and Jolie, who share six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne – met on the set of their 2004 film "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and went public with their relationship after Pitt's separation from Jennifer Aniston. They married in 2014 at their French estate, Château Miraval. The former couple's French winery also became a point of contention, with Pitt suing Jolie in 2022 after she sold her stake in the company.
Looking ahead, Pitt is focused on his upcoming racing movie, "F1," directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for "Top Gun: Maverick." The film, which also stars Damson Idris and Lewis Hamilton, is set to release in theaters on June 27.
