A high-ranking government officer in Chhattisgarh is facing serious allegations of rape and exploitation by a woman constable. The allegations include rape and exploitation under the false promise of marriage.

This is not the first time a Chhattisgarh bureaucrat has been accused of such a crime. In 2004, police registered a case of sexual harassment and rape against a senior IAS officer. The officer, who was the special secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department and former Jashpur district collector, was accused of sexually exploiting a woman staff member for seven months in 2001 and 2002. The case was registered after the Chief Minister asked police to proceed with the rape case. The state government also directed police to press charges of misusing his official status and raping a staff member at his official residence. The victim was working in the women and child development department as a supervisor. She was allegedly suspended by the accused officer when she wrote to the state government and the director general of police.

In 2020, the Chhattisgarh police registered a case against an IAS officer, who was the former Collector of Janjgir–Champa, for allegedly raping a woman on the collectorate premises after threatening to remove her husband from government service. The officer had reportedly raped her and sent her obscene messages and threats. The Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to suspend the official and launch a high-level inquiry. The officer was charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code for rape, punishment for criminal intimidation, and word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman. The government suspended him, stating his conduct was unbecoming of an officer and violated conduct rules.

In a separate incident in 2017, two constables were suspended after a woman alleged rape. The woman alleged that she was standing with her friend when the two constables came on a motorcycle and caught them. They recorded a video with their mobile phones, and one of them allegedly raped her.
