In a tragic incident in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district, a Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) constable attacked his wife and six-year-old son with a sword before allegedly taking his own life. The constable, identified as Rajkumar Kantiwal, was found dead on a railway track near Bagad, with authorities suspecting he jumped in front of a train.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 18, 2025, in the Kisan Colony area under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali police station. Preliminary investigations suggest a marital dispute as the motive behind the attack. Rajkumar and his wife, Kavita, had been married for seven years and had a divorce hearing scheduled for August 20 in the Jhunjhunu family court.
According to police reports, Rajkumar had returned home on August 16 after taking leave from his post in Sriganganagar. On the night of the incident, a heated argument escalated, leading Rajkumar to attack his wife and son with a sword. Kavita, who works as a Lower Division Clerk (LDC) at the Jhunjhunu Panchayat Samiti, sustained severe injuries, including the loss of two fingers. She has been referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur for treatment. The couple's six-year-old son suffered a deep wound on his neck and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Jhunjhunu.
Police suspect that Rajkumar brought the sword from his native village of Indali two days prior, suggesting the attack may have been premeditated. Following the attack, Rajkumar fled the scene and was later found dead on the railway tracks.
The Kotwali police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and both families have been notified. The incident has sent shockwaves through the area, with residents expressing disbelief and grief over the tragic turn of events.
This incident is not the first of its kind in Rajasthan. In 2013, a Rajasthan Police constable killed his wife and three children before committing suicide by jumping in front of a train in Haryana. In another incident in 2018, a police constable in Nagaur and his family took their lives after alleged harassment from a senior colleague. These incidents highlight the immense pressure and stress that police personnel often face, sometimes leading to devastating consequences.
