Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh has launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission (EC), alleging vote theft and fraud during the recent Delhi elections. Singh claims the EC has made "false, baseless, and factless statements" to cover up these alleged misdeeds. He is questioning the EC's refusal to release CCTV footage, citing privacy concerns, and asking why televised voter participation doesn't violate the same privacy.
Singh stated that the Election Commission's recent press conference made it clear that the commission has stolen votes and committed fraud. He also questioned whether the EC acted upon complaints submitted during the Delhi elections, stating that his party had submitted complaints in writing, but no action was taken.
The AAP MP challenged the EC's claim that releasing CCTV footage violates privacy, asking "On voting day, videos and interviews of women are shown on TV, so does that violate privacy? Participating in the electoral process is a matter of pride for a voter. What privacy is being violated by showing that?".
These accusations follow previous claims by AAP regarding voter registration malpractices. Earlier in the year, AAP accused BJP leaders and Union ministers of engaging in voter registration fraud in Delhi before the assembly elections. Sanjay Singh alleged that BJP was misleading the Election Commission by registering fake votes. AAP claimed that dozens of voter registration applications had been filed from single small shops and basements and accused BJP leaders of using their addresses for multiple registrations. The BJP has countered these accusations, accusing AAP of similar malpractice.
In response to these allegations, the Election Commission stated that the appropriate time to raise any issue with the electoral rolls was during the "Claims and Objections" period ahead of the elections. The EC also said that digital and physical copies of the draft electoral rolls are shared with all political parties and put on the ECI website.
Earlier in August, Singh also alleged irregularities in the voter list revision process in Bihar, stating that "dead people are being brought back to life, living people are being killed, a dog's residence certificate is being made, and Trump's vote is being created in Bihar".
These accusations from AAP and Sanjay Singh highlight the ongoing concerns surrounding the integrity of the electoral process in India. With the Delhi elections approaching, the accusations and counter-accusations raise concerns about the fairness and transparency of the elections.
