Commuters traveling from Pari Chowk in Greater Noida towards Delhi are facing significant traffic diversions this weekend due to urgent repair work on an underground water pipeline along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. The affected arm of the expressway, specifically the carriageway leading towards Delhi, will remain closed until 4 AM on Monday, June 9, 2025.
The closure, which began at 9 PM on Friday, June 6, 2025, is necessary to address damage to an 800 mm diameter underground water pipeline. According to officials, the pipeline is located approximately 10 meters from the central verge of the expressway. The repair work necessitates the closure of a 30-meter stretch of the main carriageway, with a width of about 5 meters.
To manage the traffic disruption, the Noida Traffic Police have implemented diversions near the Bird Feeding Point, in close proximity to Dalit Prerna Sthal. Commuters heading towards Delhi destinations such as Mayur Vihar, Akshardham, and ITO are advised to take alternative routes, including the Dadri-Chhalera Road (DSC Road) and the Botanical Garden route. Traffic from Greater Noida towards Delhi will also be diverted via Kalindi Kunj and Sarita Vihar. Furthermore, traffic originating from Kalindi Kunj and heading towards Chilla Border and the DND Flyway will be redirected through Sector 37 and the Botanical Garden route.
The DSC Road, which connects several metro stations including Botanical Garden, Sector 18, Sector 16, and Sector 15, as well as commercial hubs like Atta Market, is expected to experience increased congestion due to the diverted traffic.
While the diversions are in place, emergency vehicles, including ambulances and fire engines, will be provided with safe passage. The Noida Traffic Police have also established a helpline number (9971009001) to assist commuters who may encounter difficulties or require assistance.
DL Verma, a senior manager at the Noida Authority, emphasized the urgency of the repair work, stating that the damaged pipeline has led to leakages and disruptions in water supply in nearby areas. Verma also noted that delaying the repairs could potentially cause further damage to the expressway itself. With the monsoon season approaching, completing the repairs before the onset of heavy rains is crucial, as digging and construction work would be significantly more challenging during the monsoon.
The Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is a vital transportation artery, handling approximately five lakh vehicles on weekdays. This includes about two lakh vehicles from the DND Flyway, and one lakh each from Kalindi Kunj, Chilla Border and the internal sectors of Noida. While the weekend typically sees lower traffic volumes due to school and office closures, significant congestion is still anticipated due to the diversions. Similar restrictions were put in place in February 2025 for previous pipeline repair work in the same area.
