Following England's narrow 1-0 victory over Andorra in their recent World Cup qualifier, captain Harry Kane has offered a frank assessment of the team's performance, admitting that they "got away with it." The Three Lions struggled to break down a resolute Andorran defense, ultimately relying on Kane's second-half goal to secure the win.

Kane, who equaled Frank Lampard and Sir Bobby Charlton with 106 caps, acknowledged the team's shortcomings in a post-match interview. "For sure we can play better, it wasn't our greatest performance," he stated. "I don't think people will remember this one, but we can learn from it." He attributed some of the struggles to the timing of the match, noting that "the June camp is never an easy camp" due to players coming off long seasons. The hot conditions and dry pitch in Barcelona, similar to what they might face at the World Cup next year, also played a factor.

Despite the challenges, Kane emphasized the importance of securing the three points in the qualifying campaign. "We take the three points and move on," he said. However, he also stressed the need for improvement, stating, "We probably weren't good enough on the ball, not enough forward runs, forward passes. The most important thing is we kept giving it away, it gave them confidence, gave them energy."

Manager Thomas Tuchel echoed Kane's sentiments, admitting that his team "played with fire." He criticized their lack of "urgency, quality, and energy," particularly after scoring the opening goal. Tuchel also defended Kane, saying the captain "showed the attitude in the end that is needed to bring it over the line" and was "one of the very few to really step up and put a shift in in the end when things got a bit stuck and uncomfortable."

Roy Keane, a Sky Sports pundit, was particularly critical of England's attitude, stating that he saw players "getting bored" in the last half hour of the game. He questioned the message sent by senior players like Kane, who seemed content with simply getting the job done.

Despite the underwhelming performance, there were some positive takeaways for England. Noni Madueke, in particular, impressed with his lively performance on the wing, providing the assist for Kane's goal. Kane himself praised Madueke, stating, "I think he was a constant threat today, obviously got the assist for the goal as well. We need more of that. We have amazing players, we need players who are not afraid to go one v one and if they lose the ball, we will get it again and go again."

Looking ahead, England will face Senegal in a friendly at Nottingham Forest's City Ground. Kane sees this as another opportunity to learn and improve. "We have a friendly on Tuesday where we can learn again against an opposition we may come up against next year," he said.
