Shanaya Kapoor is gearing up for her Bollywood debut in "Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan," a romantic drama directed by Santosh Singh. The film, produced by Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla under Zee Studios and Mini Films, is adapted from Ruskin Bond's short story, "The Eyes Have It". It stars Vikrant Massey as a visually impaired musician and Shanaya Kapoor as a theatre artist, marking her entry into the film industry. The movie is slated for release on July 11, 2025.
Shanaya recently offered a glimpse into her preparation for the film by sharing a behind-the-scenes video from her first day of workshop. The actress posted the video on Instagram, expressing her excitement with the caption, "First day of workshop for Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan with the best best bestttttt @rachitsingh08." The clip shows Shanaya sitting on a couch, initially with a mask on, and then removing it to scream with enthusiasm, signaling her eagerness to begin the project.
Director Santosh Singh has spoken about casting Shanaya, emphasizing that she earned the role through merit after extensive auditions and workshops. He mentioned being impressed by her test tape, where she prepared and auditioned for a particularly challenging scene. Singh also noted that Shanaya underwent workshops for three to four months and is currently training with an acting coach. Producer Mansi Bagla highlighted that Kapoor brought "acting spark and raw fluidity" to the role.
"Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan" explores the connection between two individuals who meet on a train journey and form a deep bond despite their physical challenges. The narrative revolves around themes of perception, human connection, and modern relationships. Vikrant Massey plays a blind musician, while Shanaya Kapoor portrays a theatre artist. The film captures how they connect without relying on physical appearance, focusing on feelings and communication.
The film's teaser, which was released earlier this month, offers a glimpse into this tender narrative, showcasing a chance encounter evolving into an emotional bond. The teaser features moments of joy and tension, highlighting the emotional depth of the story. Massey’s character closes the teaser with the line, “Love is blind.”
Vishal Mishra has composed the music for "Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan," and the first song, "Nazara," has already been released, garnering attention from fans. The music video for "Nazara" features Vikrant Massey and Shanaya Kapoor in a snow-filled setting, exploring their love that transcends sight.
The release of the first poster and teaser has generated considerable buzz, with many praising the chemistry between Vikrant Massey and Shanaya Kapoor. However, some internet users have also commented on the age difference between the lead actors. Despite this, Shanaya's parents, Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, have shown their support and excitement for her debut.
"Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan" is not just Shanaya Kapoor's debut film; it also marks a significant project for director Santosh Singh, who sees Vikrant Massey as a romantic hero. The film was shot in Mussoorie and Mumbai in early 2025, with cinematographer Tanveer Mir employing close-focus techniques to convey sensory experiences.
