The cricket world is still reeling from South Africa's stunning victory over Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord's. The Proteas, led by Temba Bavuma and fueled by Aiden Markram's magnificent century, chased down a target of 282 to secure a memorable five-wicket win, ending a 27-year wait for an ICC trophy. Amidst the celebrations and reactions pouring in from across the globe, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh added his voice, congratulating South Africa while also delivering a playful jab at the defeated Australian side.

Yuvraj took to social media platform X to express his thoughts on the match. He lauded the South African team, praising their resilience, character, and their performance in the crucial final. He specifically mentioned the contributions of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Marco Jansen with the ball, and Aiden Markram's brilliant century. However, it was his cheeky remark directed at the Australian team that caught the attention of many. "Tough luck #Australia! You know it's okay to let go of one trophy," Yuvraj quipped, adding a winking emoji for good measure.

Yuvraj's comment, while lighthearted, subtly acknowledged Australia's dominance in ICC events over the years. The Australian team is known for its competitive spirit and has consistently performed well in major tournaments. This loss in the WTC final was their first defeat in an ICC final since 2010 when they lost to England in the T20 World Cup. It is worth noting that Australia defeated India in the previous WTC final in 2023.

Sachin Tendulkar also congratulated South Africa on their victory. He acknowledged the pressure of the final and praised the South African team for holding their nerve. He also praised Markram and Bavuma for their contributions with the bat.

South Africa's victory in the WTC final is particularly significant as it marks the end of a long trophy drought. Their last ICC title win came in 1998 when they won the ICC KnockOut Trophy. This win is a testament to the team's hard work, determination, and the leadership of Temba Bavuma. Bavuma himself expressed his delight at shedding the "chokers" tag that has often been associated with South African cricket. He emphasized the unifying power of the victory for the nation.

The WTC final was a thrilling contest that showcased the best of Test cricket. Australia, after winning the toss and batting first, were bundled out for 212. In reply, South Africa could only manage 138, thus handing Australia a lead of 74 runs. Australia were then bowled out for 207, setting South Africa a target of 282. South Africa chased the target down with five wickets to spare, thanks to a brilliant century by Aiden Markram and a crucial half-century from Temba Bavuma.

The South African victory was celebrated wildly, with emotional scenes in the dressing room. This win has not only brought joy to South African fans but has also reaffirmed their place among cricket's elite on the world stage.
