Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects in Bihar today, June 20, 2025, with a total investment of ₹5,700 crore. The projects span across critical sectors including railway infrastructure, sewage treatment, clean drinking water, and power infrastructure, aiming to boost the socio-economic development of the state. The event is scheduled to take place in Siwan district, where the Prime Minister will address a public gathering.

A significant portion of the investment is directed towards enhancing railway infrastructure in the region. PM Modi will inaugurate the new Vaishali–Deoria railway line project, constructed at a cost of over ₹400 crore, and flag off a new train service on this route. This development is expected to improve rail connectivity from Purvanchal in Uttar Pradesh to various districts in North Bihar, including Bettiah, Narkatiaganj, Muzaffarpur, and Vaishali. Furthermore, the Prime Minister will flag off the Vande Bharat Express connecting Patliputra (Patna) to Gorakhpur via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah, providing high-speed rail facilities to the people of the region.

In line with the "Make in India, Make for the World" initiative, PM Modi will flag off the first export locomotive manufactured at the Marhowra Plant in Saran district. This locomotive is destined for the Republic of Guinea and is equipped with high-horsepower engines, advanced AC propulsion, regenerative braking, and microprocessor-based controls. This marks a significant step towards making India a global hub for locomotive manufacturing and reviving the industrial area of Marhowra. The plant has already delivered 726 locomotives to Indian Railways and will now export 150 locomotives to Guinea over the next three years.

Addressing the critical issue of river pollution, the Prime Minister will inaugurate six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under the Namami Gange project, with a combined value of ₹1,800 crore. These STPs are designed to treat sewage water from residential areas of Patna and adjoining localities before it enters the Ganga River, thereby strengthening the 'Clean and Pure Ganga' campaign. Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for water supply, sanitation, and STP projects worth over ₹3,000 crore in various towns across Bihar, ensuring clean and safe drinking water for thousands of households.

To boost power infrastructure in the state, the foundation stone will be laid for a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bihar. These standalone BESS units will be installed at 15 grid substations across the state, including Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, and Siwan, with capacities ranging from 20 MWh to 80 MWh. This initiative will enable distribution companies to store electricity and feed it back to the grid during peak demand, reducing the need to purchase expensive electricity and directly benefiting consumers.

In addition to these projects, the Prime Minister will release the first instalment of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) to more than 53,600 beneficiaries in Bihar. He will also hand over keys to a few beneficiaries to mark the Grih Pravesh Ceremony of more than 6,600 completed houses under the scheme.

These projects are expected to have a significant impact on the infrastructure and socio-economic landscape of Bihar, improving connectivity, providing clean drinking water, promoting sanitation, and boosting the power sector.
