The Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) academy marked a significant milestone with its 2025 graduation ceremony, coinciding with the program's 10-year anniversary. The event celebrated a decade of nurturing young footballing talent in India and highlighted the academy's commitment to holistic development.
Established in May 2015, RFYC was founded with the vision of identifying and training talented young footballers, providing them with a world-class environment to unlock their potential both on and off the field. Fully supported by the Reliance Foundation, the academy offers fully funded scholarships to deserving young talents from across the country after a year-long scouting process.
The academy's "Child First, Player Second" philosophy underscores its dedication to the holistic development of each scholar, focusing not only on athletic prowess but also on character building, academic excellence, and life skills. This approach has earned RFYC the prestigious Elite 5-Star status from the All India Football Federation (AIFF), solidifying its reputation as one of India's top football academies.
Located in Navi Mumbai, RFYC boasts world-class residential facilities and a comprehensive curriculum that integrates top-tier football training with academics, nutrition, mental wellness programs, and life skills education. The academy regularly hosts marquee youth tournaments such as the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS), the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL), and the Premier League Next Gen Cup, providing young players with invaluable exposure to elite competition.
RFYC has also been at the forefront of utilizing technology to enhance scouting and performance analysis. The academy employs AI-powered tools to identify and nurture talent, ensuring that promising players receive the best possible coaching and development opportunities.
In addition to its focus on player development, RFYC has also taken a proactive stance against age fraud in Indian football, participating in initiatives such as the Stay Your Age Cup in 2024 alongside other leading football organizations.
The impact of RFYC is evident in the success of its alumni, with over 40 graduates now playing in the Indian Super League (ISL) and I-League. Notable names include Mohammed Sanan (Jamshedpur FC), Nathan Rodrigues (Mumbai City FC), Huidrom Thoi Singh (NorthEast United FC), and Alan Saji (FC Goa), demonstrating the academy's lasting legacy in shaping the future of Indian football.
As part of its 10th-anniversary celebrations, RFYC conducted football clinics in Goa, a key talent hub for the academy. These clinics, led by RFYC Head of Scouting Stephen Charles and attended by RFYC alumni like Felixson Fernandes (Bengaluru FC), provided aspiring young players with the opportunity to train with professionals and learn about the standards of professional football.
Looking ahead, RFYC remains committed to its mission of nurturing young footballing talent and contributing to the growth of Indian football. By providing comprehensive training, education, and support, the academy empowers its graduates to excel both on and off the field, shaping them into not just skilled athletes but also responsible and well-rounded individuals.
