In a major security success, Punjab Police have foiled a terror plot orchestrated by Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative Harwinder Singh Rinda, with the arrest of two BKI operatives. The arrests were made by the Counter Intelligence team in Ferozepur. The two BKI operatives were planning to target government establishments using grenades.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Harpreet Singh, also known as Preet, a resident of Bhullar village in Tarn Taran, and Gulshan Singh, also known as Nandu, who is a resident of Rampura village in Amritsar. Authorities recovered two 86P hand grenades and one 9mm pistol, along with five live cartridges, from the accused.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that the operation was based on specific intelligence inputs. He added that the accused were actively conspiring to target government establishments with grenades, with the intention of disrupting peace and harmony in the state. Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were receiving instructions from foreign-based handlers located in the UK, USA, and Europe. These handlers are working under the direction of Harwinder Singh Rinda, who is backed by Pakistan's ISI.
This development comes just ahead of Independence Day. Just two days prior to these arrests, Punjab Police had already busted another BKI terror module, arresting five operatives, including three juveniles, from the Tonk and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan. In that operation, authorities recovered one 86P hand grenade and one .30 bore pistol.
DGP Yadav stated that Harvinder Rinda, operating from Pakistan with the support of the ISI and associates in the UK, US, and Europe, has been continuously attempting to mislead the youth of Punjab into carrying out anti-national activities.
These recent successes highlight the ongoing efforts of the Punjab Police to counter terrorism and maintain peace in the state. The police are conducting further investigations to establish the forward and backward linkages in these cases.
