Shashi Tharoor Clarifies Modi Praise: No BJP Intent Despite 'Operation Sindoor' Outreach Speculation.

Shashi Tharoor, a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress, has recently found himself at the center of political discussions after praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approach to international relations, specifically in the context of "Operation Sindoor." This operation refers to India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent diplomatic outreach. Tharoor's commendation has sparked speculation and debate, with some interpreting it as a potential sign of him aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, Tharoor has firmly denied any intentions of joining the BJP, asserting his commitment to the Congress party and its ideology.

Tharoor's praise for Modi stems from his role in leading an all-party delegation as part of the "Operation Sindoor" outreach. This initiative involved sending delegations to various countries to convey India's stance on terrorism following the Pahalgam attack. Tharoor led a delegation to the United States, Panama, Guyana, Colombia, and Brazil. He lauded Modi's "energy, dynamism, and willingness to engage" on the global stage, deeming it a "prime asset" for India. In an article in The Hindu, Tharoor argued that Modi's efforts deserve greater backing, emphasizing the importance of national unity and effective public diplomacy.

His comments, however, have not been without controversy. Within the Congress party, some leaders have criticized Tharoor for his positive remarks about Modi. One Congress leader even sarcastically labeled him the "super spokesperson" of the BJP, highlighting the internal divisions and sensitivities surrounding Tharoor's stance. The BJP, on the other hand, has seized upon Tharoor's praise to target Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party, suggesting that Tharoor's acknowledgment of Modi's strengths exposes the opposition's shortcomings in understanding India's global strategic advantages.

Despite the political storm, Tharoor has maintained his position, emphasizing that his comments are driven by a desire to represent India's interests on the global stage, regardless of party affiliations. He has also pointed out that he has been loyal to the Congress party and its ideology for the last 16 years.

Operation Sindoor itself was a significant undertaking, initiated in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. India launched strikes against terrorist infrastructure. Tharoor highlighted the operation's success and criticized Pakistan's targeting of civilian areas. He also expressed disappointment with the Colombian government for initially expressing condolences for the loss of lives in Pakistan rather than sympathizing with the victims of terrorism.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) further fueled the speculation by sharing Tharoor's article on social media, an unusual move that amplified the buzz around a potential switch to the BJP. However, Tharoor has consistently downplayed any friction with the Congress party, describing the incidents as "differences of opinion" with certain elements of the leadership. He has also held meetings with senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, to discuss his future within the party.

In conclusion, Shashi Tharoor's praise for Prime Minister Modi's diplomatic efforts in the context of "Operation Sindoor" has stirred political waters, leading to speculation about his potential alignment with the BJP. However, Tharoor has firmly denied any such intentions, reaffirming his commitment to the Congress party. While his comments have drawn criticism from within his own party, they also reflect a broader recognition of the importance of national unity in addressing global challenges and representing India's interests on the international stage. The incident underscores the complex dynamics of Indian politics, where cross-party collaborations and differing opinions can often lead to both controversy and opportunities for constructive dialogue.
