Wimbledon 2025 is proving that age is just a number as several seasoned players are making deep runs in the tournament. While all eyes are often on the young stars, several players in their 30s are demonstrating that experience and skill can still triumph on the hallowed grass courts of the All England Club.

Novak Djokovic, at 38, continues his quest for a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title. In his second-round match, Djokovic defeated Daniel Evans in straight sets, displaying the kind of form that has made him a dominant force in the sport for over a decade. Djokovic, the sixth seed, is aiming to equal Roger Federer's all-time record of eight Wimbledon titles. "I wouldn't be here if I didn't think I had a chance," said Djokovic. "I think I always have a chance, I think I earned my right to really feel like I can go all the way to the title. I have had the most consistent success here at Wimbledon". He has won 40 of his past 42 matches at the All England Club. After his victory over Evans, Djokovic said that Wimbledon "still stays the most special tournament in my heart, the one that I always dreamed of winning when I was a kid". When asked about reflecting on his first appearance at Wimbledon 20 years ago, he said he doesn't pause to reflect, but acknowledged it's a very different situation now.

Marin Cilic, 36, also made a significant statement by defeating British No. 1 Jack Draper in four sets. This victory was particularly meaningful for Cilic, who has battled knee injuries over the past few years. Cilic hadn't competed at Wimbledon since 2021. "The emotions I'm feeling are incredible," said Cilic. "Where I was two years ago – I can't even describe...It's been a long journey but I never lost any doubt. This was a huge challenge, to come back and play at this level against Jack, in front of this crowd". Before his second-round match at Wimbledon 2025, Cilic had never beaten a top 5 player on grass. Cilic will face Jaume Munar in the third round.

These players exemplify the enduring appeal of tennis, where experience, mental fortitude, and tactical acumen can be just as decisive as youthful athleticism. As the tournament progresses, it will be fascinating to see how these seasoned competitors continue to fare against the rising stars of the game.
