Pankaj Tripathi, known for his grounded performances and versatility, has recently addressed comparisons being drawn between him and the late Irrfan Khan, particularly in light of his role in the new film Metro… In Dino. Tripathi emphatically stated that such comparisons "should never happen". He holds Irrfan Khan in the highest regard, viewing him as a senior and a constant source of inspiration.

Tripathi clarified that Irrfan Khan was his senior at drama school, and he has always admired Irrfan's craft, learning from his performances. He emphasized Irrfan's irreplaceable position in the hearts of many.

In Metro… In Dino, Pankaj Tripathi plays Monty, a character experiencing a mid-life crisis within his marriage to Kajol Ghosh, played by Konkona Sensharma. The film is considered a spiritual sequel to Life In A… Metro, where Irrfan Khan played a character named Monty, which led to inevitable comparisons. Some critics and audiences have noted similarities between Tripathi's performance and Irrfan's signature nonchalance, humor, and charisma.

Konkona Sensharma, who starred alongside Irrfan Khan in Life In A... Metro and now shares the screen with Pankaj Tripathi in Metro... In Dino, also weighed in on the comparisons. She mentioned that she was the one who suggested the name Monty for Irrfan's character in the first film. She also added that the characters in Metro... In Dino are different, portraying an older, married couple facing different challenges compared to the younger characters in Life In A Metro. Sensharma stated that she doesn't want to dwell on comparisons, as she considers Metro... In Dino a fresh and new project.

Metro... In Dino, directed by Anurag Basu, features an ensemble cast including Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sara Ali Khan. The film explores love in its various forms, with Pankaj Tripathi and Konkona Sensharma tackling it from a different perspective in their roles.
