Sophia Dunkley has lauded England's resilience and fighting spirit following their narrow five-run victory over India in the third T20I at the Oval on Friday. The win keeps the five-match series alive, with India now leading 2-1.

Dunkley's impressive 75, alongside Danni Wyatt-Hodge's contribution, formed a strong foundation for England, who, despite a late collapse, managed to post a total of 171/9. In response, India could only muster 166/5, falling just short of the target in a thrilling last-ball finish.

The match was a rollercoaster, with England initially dominating thanks to a century stand between Dunkley and Wyatt-Hodge. Dunkley reached her half-century in just 35 deliveries. However, a sudden collapse saw England lose a flurry of wickets, almost jeopardizing their chances. India also faltered in the final overs, failing to capitalize on a strong start.

Dunkley's innings was crucial in setting up England's victory. Opening the batting, she provided the much-needed impetus, displaying a wide range of shots and tackling the Indian bowlers with confidence. Her partnership with Wyatt-Hodge was the bedrock of the innings, allowing England to build a competitive total.

Despite the win, England's performance was not without flaws. A "dreadful collapse" and "some failings in the field" are cause for concern. England slumped from 137-0 to 171-9. However, the team's ability to hold their nerve in a tense finish was commendable. Lauren Bell, bowling the final over, defended 12 runs, dismissing Harmanpreet Kaur on the last ball to seal the victory.

The victory was crucial for England, who were in danger of losing the series with two matches to spare. Having lost the first two T20Is, England needed to win to stay in contention. The win at the Oval has breathed new life into the series, setting up an exciting finale with the last two matches to be played at Old Trafford and Edgbaston.

While Dunkley's batting performance was a major highlight, the contributions of other players, including Tammy Beaumont and Lauren Filer, were also vital. Beaumont, filling in for Nat Sciver-Brunt, played a key role in steadying the innings. Filer's bowling performance also proved crucial in restricting the Indian batters.

The series is poised for an exciting conclusion. India will be aiming to bounce back and secure their first-ever women's T20I series win over England. England, on the other hand, will be looking to build on this win and level the series.
