Despite strong performances and high hopes, Indian shooters were unable to secure a place in the medal rounds at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup held in Lonato, Italy. The competition, which draws athletes from around the globe, serves as a crucial platform for shooters to hone their skills and compete for coveted spots in the year-end ISSF World Cup Finals in Doha.

India sent a strong contingent to Lonato, including Olympians and other accomplished shooters. In the men's skeet event, the team included Mairaj Ahmad Khan, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, and Anantjeet Singh Naruka, while the women's skeet team featured Maheshwari Chauhan, Raiza Dhillon, and Ganemat Sekhon. The trap events saw Lakshay Sheoran, Zoravar Singh Sandhu, and Jaswinder Singh representing India in the men's category, and Neeru Dhanda, Preeti Rajak, and Pragati Dubey in the women's category. In the mixed team trap event, Lakshay was paired with Neeru, and Zoravar with Preeti.

Expectations were high for the Indian squad, especially after Kynan Chenai and Sabeera Haris secured a bronze medal in the mixed team trap event at the ISSF World Cup in Nicosia earlier in the season. This was India's only medal in shotgun events at the ISSF World Cups this year, after the team drew blanks at the Buenos Aires and Lima legs.

According to their coach, Vikram Chopra, the team was training with dedication, and bonding well. He emphasized the importance of the Lonato World Cup as the final stage before the World Championships in Athens.

However, despite their best efforts, the Indian shooters could not replicate their Nicosia success in Lonato. While individual scores and rankings are still emerging, it is clear that the team missed out on the medal rounds. Several shooters including Nuanda qualified for her first final at an international event. Ultimately, the finals saw Leticia Scandlin of Australia and Alessandra Pilli of San Marino among the top competitors.

The Lonato World Cup is the last ISSF World Cup of the season for shotgun shooters before the Finals in Doha in December. While India will not be represented in the medal rounds at Lonato, there is still an opportunity for Indian shooters to qualify for the Finals based on their performances throughout the year.
