Rita Ora is embracing a new era of her music with the release of her latest single, "Heat". The 34-year-old singer and actress describes the track as a celebration of freedom, joy, and unapologetic self-expression. "Heat" is a "sexy dance banger" that offers a taste of what's to come on her upcoming fourth studio album.

Ora says that the "whole theme of this record is really about being instant [and] really direct with my messaging and stripping everything back behind me, production wise". She wants to reintroduce herself to the public, especially to her new fans. The new album is Ora's first since 2023.

"Heat" embodies a carefree and fun spirit, marking a departure from her previous album, "You and I," which delved into her love life and marriage to filmmaker Taika Waititi. Ora has been married to Waititi for three years. With "Heat," she aims to celebrate everything she has become, emphasizing that it's "not super deep, just fun".

The single was co-written by Troye Sivan, who Ora says she has "a lot in common" with. She admires Sivan's celebration of his sexuality and was inspired to embrace her own womanhood and sexiness. Ora told People that she loves Sivan’s sexuality and the celebration he has with that. She was really inspired for her and her womanhood to really kind of celebrate her sexuality, her sexiness and get back into her body, and this really just embodied that.

The lyrics of "Heat" are intentionally provocative, with the opening line "Sex on sight, anywhere you like, inside or outside," signaling a bold and uninhibited approach. Ora says the line sends "such a clear message of, like, 'Oh, wow, she really isn't holding back this time.' And I'm really not".

The music video for "Heat," directed by Justin Daashuur Hopkins, enhances the song's vibrant and playful energy. It was filmed in Miami Beach and features a colorful cast of characters, retro swimwear, and humorous scenes. The aesthetic is inspired by photographer Martin Parr, known for his warm and honest depictions of British beach life.

Ora promoted "Heat" with a surprise live performance outside King's Cross station in London, where she sang and danced for a thrilled crowd. Will Smith also made a surprise appearance, performing some of his iconic hits. She also performed at The Hill in New York in Brooklyn Bridge Park in celebration of Wimbledon.

"Heat" has been well-received, with many describing it as a summer anthem. It combines warm pop tones with a message of freedom and owning one's identity. Critics have noted the song's catchy chorus, danceable beats, and Ora's confident presence. It quickly gained popularity on streaming platforms and climbed the iTunes charts in several countries.
