In a brazen act of violence, a gangster, Chandan Mishra, was shot dead at Patna's Paras Hospital on Thursday morning by a group of five armed men. One arrest has been made in the case, with police identifying the accused as Tausif. Raids are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Chandan Mishra, also known as Chandan Singh, was serving a life sentence for the murder of a businessman and was out on a 15-day medical parole that was scheduled to end on July 18. He had a long criminal history, with over 20 cases registered against him, including murder, bank robbery, and dacoity. Mishra was also known to be associated with interstate gold robber Santosh Singh.
The incident occurred when the five assailants casually walked into the hospital, brandishing pistols, and entered Room 209 where Mishra was admitted. They fired multiple rounds at Mishra before fleeing the scene. The entire episode was captured on CCTV cameras, revealing the chilling ease with which the perpetrators carried out the hit. The footage shows the men walking through the corridor, pulling out their weapons, and entering the room.
Patna police have launched an investigation into the murder, suspecting it to be the result of gang rivalry. Inspector General Jitendra Rana stated that the killing appeared to be a targeted attack, executed after careful planning. Authorities are analyzing CCTV footage from the hospital's reception, entry/exit points, and hallways to gather more information. A dog squad and forensic team have also been deployed to aid the investigation.
The daylight murder has raised concerns about the law-and-order situation in Bihar. The incident has sparked public outrage and drawn attention to the ongoing gang violence in the state. The police are under pressure to swiftly apprehend the remaining culprits and bring them to justice. The Special Task Force (STF) has created a specialized cell dedicated to maintaining a database of contract killers operating in Bihar.
