The Bollywood film Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri and starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has made waves since its release on July 18, 2025. The romantic drama has not only garnered positive reviews but has also stirred a strong emotional response from audiences and industry veterans alike.

Karan Johar, a prominent figure in Bollywood, shared his heartfelt reaction to the film in an Instagram post. He admitted to being moved to tears and feeling immense joy after watching Saiyaara. Johar lauded the film for bringing "love back" to the silver screen and praised Yash Raj Films (YRF) for supporting the romantic genre. He commended Mohit Suri for creating what he believes is the "best film of his career," highlighting the director's storytelling, craft, and use of music, noting that the music is not just a pillar but a character in the film.

Johar was particularly impressed by the performances of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, who made their Bollywood debut with Saiyaara. He wrote to Ahaan, "You broke my heart and yet energised me as a filmmaker… your eyes spoke volumes, and I can't wait to see your journey ahead…. You are spectacular!!!! Welcome to the movies !!!". Praising Aneet, he said, "you gorgeous girl… how lovely and amazing are you!!! Your silences spoke volumes and your vulnerability and strength moved me to tears…. Both Ahaan and you were beyond magical!". Johar's enthusiastic response underscores the impact the debutants have made with their performances.

However, Johar's praise for Saiyaara and its newcomers was met with a negative comment on social media, with a troll calling him "nepo kid ka daijaan (nanny for nepo kids)". Johar, known for usually ignoring such remarks, responded sharply, shutting down the troll and defending the talent in the film. He urged the troll to focus on their own work and avoid spreading negativity.

Saiyaara has also achieved commercial success, with a strong opening at the box office. The film has collected ₹21.25 crore on its opening day in India, making it the biggest opening day release ever for a debutant-led film and a career-best opening for director Suri. By its third day, the film had grossed over ₹80 crore in India, making it one of the highest-earning Bollywood films of 2025. It has also outperformed several recent releases, establishing itself as a significant success.

The movie's success is attributed to its fresh cast, soulful music, and emotionally rich narrative, which have resonated strongly with audiences. The absence of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda from promotional activities also generated intrigue. Mohit Suri explained that this decision was made to allow the actors' work to speak for itself, rather than focusing on superficial aspects.

Saiyaara's storyline follows a familiar trope of young love, heartbreak, and redemption, but it stays relevant with the new-age world of social media. Ahaan Panday plays Krish Kapoor, a rising musical sensation, while Aneet Padda plays Vaani Batra, a lyricist who rediscovers her words after heartbreak. Their on-screen chemistry and convincing performances have been praised by critics. The film's music, composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Arslan Abdullah, and Faheem Nizami, has also been well-received, with tracks like "Saiyaara," "Barbaad," and "Tum Ho Toh" becoming popular.

Saiyaara is scheduled to be released on Netflix after its theatrical run.
