Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has strongly criticized the opposition parties for disrupting the Lok Sabha proceedings with placard protests, asserting that they are creating chaos and wasting taxpayers' money. The disruptions occurred during the Monsoon session's commencement, primarily over demands for a discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor.
Rijiju stated that the government is ready for discussion on any issue, but the opposition is disrupting the proceedings by protesting in the Well of the House. He emphasized that this behavior is unacceptable, especially on the first day of the Monsoon session. He pointed out that a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) was scheduled to decide on the agenda for discussion, and the opposition should utilize that platform to raise their concerns.
The opposition's protests led to multiple adjournments of the Lok Sabha, hindering the planned legislative business. Speaker Om Birla expressed his disappointment at the disruptions and appealed to members to maintain decorum and allow discussions to proceed according to the rules. He assured the members that the government is willing to discuss every issue and answer all questions. However, the protests continued, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House repeatedly.
Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, alleged that he was not allowed to speak in the House, while ministers were given the opportunity. He questioned this "new approach" and insisted on the opposition's right to be heard. Other opposition members echoed this sentiment, stating that if the government is truly ready for discussion, they should allow the Leader of the Opposition to speak.
Rijiju has reminded the opposition that they had broken the rules by bringing placards into the House. He also criticized them for wearing colored clothes with political messages, calling it a "fashion show" that hurts the dignity of Parliament. He stressed that there is no place for "hungama" and that good behavior and constructive debate are more likely to resonate with the public.
Despite the disruptions, the government has reiterated its commitment to গুরুত্বপূর্ণ legislative business during the Monsoon Session. Key bills related to taxation, sports governance, and amendments to various acts are on the agenda. The government hopes for a productive session with meaningful discussions on issues of national importance.
