The Edmonton Oilers are entering the 2025-26 NHL season with high expectations, fueled by a series of strategic off-season acquisitions aimed at bolstering their forward depth and finally achieving a Stanley Cup breakthrough. After two consecutive Stanley Cup Final losses, the pressure is on for Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to lead the team to ultimate victory. Here's what to expect from the five new additions to the Oilers roster:

Andrew Mangiapane (F) The Oilers' biggest free agency splash this offseason, Andrew Mangiapane, 29, is a well-known commodity in Edmonton after spending his first seven NHL seasons with the rival Calgary Flames. After a stint with the Washington Capitals, where he recorded 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists) in 81 regular-season games, Mangiapane signed a two-year, $7.2 million contract with the Oilers. Mangiapane is known for his relentless motor, tenacity, and forechecking ability, making him a versatile player who can contribute in various situations. He is expected to bring energy and grit to the Oilers' forward lines, potentially playing a significant role in the top-six.

Isaac Howard (F) Acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning for forward prospect Sam O'Reilly, the 21-year-old Isaac Howard is coming off a stellar NCAA season where he won the Hobey Baker Award as the top men's hockey player. Howard tallied 52 points (26 goals, 26 assists) in 37 games at Michigan State University, showcasing his offensive prowess. The Oilers have high hopes for Howard, expecting him to challenge for a spot in the middle-six forward group and provide immediate offensive impact. Some scouts believe Howard's trajectory is similar to Matthew Savoie's, with Howard being more of a shooter and Savoie a playmaker.

Matt Savoie (F) Acquired from the Buffalo Sabres last year, Matt Savoie, 21, is expected to make the jump to the NHL full-time this season and earn a spot in the top-nine forward group out of training camp. Savoie is a highly skilled player with excellent playmaking abilities, and the Oilers are hoping he can develop strong chemistry with McDavid or Draisaitl.

Quinn Hutson (F) The 23-year-old Quinn Hutson signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Oilers after a successful season at Boston University, where he led the team with 50 points (23 goals, 27 assists) in 38 games. Hutson briefly appeared in the Oilers' final two regular-season games last season. He is expected to add depth to the Oilers' forward ranks and compete for a roster spot.

Curtis Lazar (F) Curtis Lazar, 30, signed a one-year contract to return to Edmonton, where he previously won a Memorial Cup with the Edmonton Oil Kings in 2014. Lazar brings veteran experience and a strong work ethic to the Oilers' bottom-six forwards. He had five points (two goals, three assists) in 48 games with the New Jersey Devils last season.

Overall Expectations These additions reflect the Oilers' focus on improving forward depth and versatility. While the defense and goaltending are expected to remain largely unchanged, the revamped forward group aims to provide more consistent scoring support for McDavid and Draisaitl. The Oilers are betting that these new faces will provide the necessary spark to propel them to their ultimate goal: the Stanley Cup. According to DraftKings, the Oilers have the best odds to win the 2026 Cup at +650.
