In a deeply emotional and spiritual act, the family of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore businessman who was murdered while on his honeymoon in Meghalaya, recently performed rituals at the crime scene in Sohra. The purpose of this visit was to offer prayers and seek closure following the gruesome murder that has garnered national attention.
Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife, Sonam, had embarked on their honeymoon to Meghalaya on May 20,. However, tragedy struck when Raja went missing on May 23. A frantic search ensued, and his decomposed body was discovered ten days later in a 30-foot-deep gorge near Weisawdong Falls, bearing multiple machete wounds.
Police investigations later revealed a shocking plot allegedly masterminded by Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was reportedly in a relationship with Raj Kushwaha. According to the police, Sonam conspired with Raj Kushwaha and hired three men from Indore to kill her husband. The killers lured Raja to a secluded parking lot near Weisawdong Falls under the pretense of sightseeing and then attacked him with machetes. One of the machetes was later recovered from the forest. After the murder, Sonam fled the scene and was later arrested in Uttar Pradesh. All five accused, including Sonam and Raj, are currently in judicial custody.
The family's visit to the crime scene was a poignant moment, with Raja's elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, leading the rituals. The family performed a puja at the secluded parking lot near Weisawdong Falls, the very spot where Raja was brutally murdered. Vipin Raghuvanshi expressed the family's grief and their need for spiritual closure. "We wanted to come to the place where our Raja breathed his last. No family should have to do this, but this was important for us," Vipin said, visibly emotional.
The Meghalaya Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) is continuing to investigate the case, exploring all angles, including potential financial motives. The SIT has arrested eight individuals in connection with the murder, including the three alleged hitmen: Vishal, Anand, and Akash.
The police investigation revealed that Sonam made over 100 calls to Raj Kushwaha, using the alias "Sanjay Verma," before her marriage to Raja. These calls continued even after the wedding, raising suspicions and ultimately leading to the unraveling of the murder plot. The police also discovered that the accused had made previous attempts to murder Raja. The earlier attempts were made in Guwahati, Nongriat, and near Weisawdong Falls.
The family is demanding swift justice and has called for a fast-track trial to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. "We demand swift justice. Those who conspired and killed our Raja must not walk free," Vipin Raghuvanshi stated. The brutal nature of the crime has raised concerns about tourist safety in the region.
The Meghalaya honeymoon murder case has been a subject of intense scrutiny, with various details emerging during the investigation. The autopsy report revealed that Raja Raghuvanshi suffered multiple wounds, including two sharp wounds to the head, leading to his death due to excessive blood loss. The police have recovered crucial evidence, including jewelry, a laptop, and a pen drive, which are believed to have significant evidentiary value.
