Seventeen Members of Parliament have been selected to receive the Sansad Ratna Awards 2025 for their exceptional contributions to parliamentary proceedings. The honorees were chosen based on their performance in the Lok Sabha. The awards also recognize consistent contributions to parliamentary democracy with four Special Jury Awards.
The Sansad Ratna Awards were established in 2010 by the Prime Point Foundation and PreSense eMagazine, inspired by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Dr. Kalam himself inaugurated the first award ceremony in Chennai in May 2010. The awards aim to promote transparency and accountability in Indian parliamentary performance by evaluating MPs on their participation in debates, the number of questions they raise, and private bills they introduce. As of 2024, the Sansad Ratna Awards have been presented 125 times across 14 ceremonies, recognizing both individual parliamentarians and parliamentary standing committees.
This year, four MPs are receiving Special Jury Awards for their sustained contributions to parliamentary democracy across three Lok Sabha terms (16th to 18th). These MPs are Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJP – Odisha), N.K. Premachandran (RSP – Kerala), Supriya Sule (NCP-SP – Maharashtra), and Shrirang Appa Barne (Shiv Sena – Maharashtra). These individuals have consistently demonstrated commitment and high-level performance in their legislative duties.
Other award-winning MPs include Smita Uday Wagh (BJP), Arvind Sawant (Shiv Sena UBT), Naresh Ganpat Mhaske (Shiv Sena), Varsha Gaikwad (Congress), and Medha Kulkarni (BJP). Also on the list are Praveen Patel (BJP), Ravi Kishan (BJP), Nishikant Dubey (BJP), Bidyut Baran Mahato (BJP), P.P. Chaudhary (BJP), Madan Rathore (BJP), C.N. Annadurai (DMK), and Dilip Saikia (BJP). C.N. Annadurai is the first MP from Tamil Nadu to receive this award in over a decade.
In the individual category, Maharashtra leads with seven MPs receiving the award. Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan have each won two awards, while Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam have each secured one award.
Two parliamentary committees have also been recognized for their performance based on the reports they presented to Parliament. These are the Standing Committee on Finance, chaired by Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJP, Odisha), and the Standing Committee on Agriculture, chaired by Dr. Charanjit Singh Channi (Congress, Punjab).
The Jury Committee, chaired by Hansraj Ahir, Chairman of the National Commission for Backwards Classes (NCBC), selected the awardees. The Sansad Ratna Awards continue to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of parliamentarians to Indian democracy.
