Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha today during a special discussion on Operation Sindoor, India's response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister lauded the armed forces for their swift and decisive action, and he also thanked the people of India for their unwavering support.
Modi began his address by condemning the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where terrorists killed 26 innocent people. He stated that the nation was united in its grief and anger, and that the government was determined to bring the perpetrators to justice. He affirmed that the armed forces were given a free hand to respond.
The Prime Minister detailed the events of Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, emphasizing that it targeted terror infrastructure within Pakistan, aiming to dismantle "terror nurseries" rather than seize territory. He highlighted the precision and effectiveness of the strikes, asserting that the armed forces avenged the Pahalgam attack within 22 minutes. Modi stated that India's defense system destroyed approximately 1,000 Pakistani missiles and drones mid-air during Operation Sindoor.
Modi addressed claims made by former US President Donald Trump regarding mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He stated that no world leader had asked India to halt Operation Sindoor. He recounted a conversation with US Vice President JD Vance, where he made it clear that any Pakistani aggression would be met with a stronger response. "We will respond to bullets with missiles," Modi declared. He emphasized that out of 193 countries, only 3 supported Pakistan.
The Prime Minister rebuked the opposition for questioning the timing and necessity of the operation. He accused them of finding "excuses" to oppose army operations. Modi took a jibe at the Congress party for allegedly preventing some of its leaders, possibly referring to Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari, from participating in the Operation Sindoor debate.
Modi declared that "Operation Sindoor continues" as a clear message to Pakistan. He asserted that India has demonstrated its military might and resolve. He stated that India's response would be stronger each time Pakistan attempts any misadventure. He also said that terrorists and the governments sponsoring them will not be seen separately.
The Prime Minister concluded his address by reiterating his government's commitment to protecting India from terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. He emphasized the importance of national unity and resolve in the face of such threats.
