During a heated parliamentary session, Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly criticized the opposition for objecting to the name and timing of "Operation Mahadev," a counter-terrorism operation that neutralized the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack. Shah's remarks came during a debate in the Lok Sabha, where he provided details about the operation and defended the government's approach to national security.

Shah revealed that "Operation Mahadev" was a joint effort by the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police, launched on May 22 to eliminate those responsible for the April 22 attack in Pahalgam. He stated that the operation successfully neutralized three terrorists. He expressed his surprise and disappointment that some opposition leaders did not seem happy about the elimination of the terrorists. According to Shah, he thought that after hearing the news, there would be a wave of happiness in the ruling and opposition parties.

The Home Minister accused the opposition of "terror sympathy," referencing past instances where Congress leaders appeared to sympathize with terrorists. He reminded the House of Congress leader Salman Khurshid's reaction to the 2008 Batla House encounter and criticized the Congress party's handling of national security issues, including Nehru's ceasefire decision that, according to Shah, paved the way for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Responding to Shah's accusations, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the BJP of exploiting grief while avoiding accountability for its own security lapses.

Shah also addressed concerns raised by Congress veteran P. Chidambaram, who questioned whether the Pahalgam attackers were homegrown. Shah asserted that the government has evidence linking the terrorists to Pakistan, including weapons used in the attack and recovered water IDs.

The operation involved deploying intelligence teams and surveillance along mountain routes, eventually confirming the terrorists' location by July 22. The final strike was carried out by the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police, with support from human intelligence assets. Shah emphasized that the priority was to prevent the terrorists from escaping across the border.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Amit Shah's speech and highlighted the vital role of Operations Mahadev and Sindoor in eliminating terrorists. He affirmed the government's commitment to keeping the nation secure.
