Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar 2 has outperformed Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, on its opening day at the box office. Both films were released on August 1, 2025, setting up an exciting box office clash.

Son of Sardaar 2 earned ₹6.75 crore on its opening day, surpassing the collections of Dhadak 2, which collected ₹3.35 crore. Despite the competition, Son of Sardaar 2 stood out due to its loyal fanbase and the appeal of its desi comedy. The film was released on approximately 2,500 to 3,000 screens. Dhadak 2 is expected to perform better over the weekend, as the movie has been garnering positive responses from both critics and audiences.

Son of Sardaar 2 recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 22.56% on its opening day. Morning shows had a turnout of 10.24%, which gradually increased throughout the day, peaking at 40.27% during night shows. Cities like Lucknow, Jaipur, and Delhi NCR reported the highest viewership, particularly at single screens and evening shows. The film also sold over 28,000 tickets in advance.

Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son of Sardaar 2 brings back Ajay Devgn as Jassi. The film features mistaken identities, family feuds, and chaotic wedding shenanigans. The cast includes Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Neeru Bajwa, Chunky Panday, Kubbra Sait, Deepak Dobriyal, Vindu Dara Singh, Roshni Walia, and Sharat Saxena. Mukul Dev also appears posthumously.

Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal, is considered a spiritual sequel to the 2018 film Dhadak and is a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. Dhadak 2 had an overall Hindi occupancy rate of 22.85%. The morning shows recorded only 15.02% occupancy, but the numbers improved as the day progressed.

However, both Son of Sardaar 2 and Dhadak 2 have underperformed at the box office compared to their original movies. The original Son of Sardaar had garnered ₹10.80 crore on its first day, while Dhadak collected ₹8.71 crore on its opening day.

Son of Sardaar 2 faced stiff competition from Saiyaara, which is now in its 15th day and collected a strong ₹7.36 crore. Mahavatar Narsimha remained the top performer with an impressive ₹11.57 crore in collections on its eighth day.

Son of Sardaar 2 was initially scheduled to release on July 25, 2025, but the release date was postponed to August 1, 2025.
