Ruben Amorim has declared his ambition to remain the head coach of Manchester United for the next 20 years, envisioning a long-term legacy at Old Trafford. Despite a challenging start to his tenure, the Portuguese boss is optimistic about the future and aims to emulate the long reigns of legendary United managers like Sir Alex Ferguson, who spent nearly 27 years in charge, and Sir Matt Busby, who was in charge for 24 years.
Amorim took over as head coach in November of last year and saw the team finish in 15th place. This was the team's worst season in 51 years. Speaking before United's Premier League Summer Series match with Everton, Amorim expressed his commitment to the club, stating, "Yeah, I want to stay. I want to stay 20 (years). That is my goal, and I truly believe in that". He acknowledged the importance of results in dictating his future but affirmed his dedication to the role, saying, "I want to be the manager of Manchester United for a while. And I took five years to choose this club, so I don't want to fail".
Amorim is aware of the challenges ahead, admitting that he used up all his "credits" during his rocky debut season. He lost 14 of his 27 Premier League games. However, he is approaching the new season with a fresh perspective and a determination to turn things around. He believes that with time, support from the club's hierarchy, and a bit of luck, he can guide the Red Devils back to the top of English football.
The Manchester United head coach has vowed to make United Premier League champions again. Amorim has two years left on his contract, with the option of another year.
To foster a winning environment, Amorim is implementing changes within the squad, drawing inspiration from successful managerial approaches. He has adopted a strategy similar to Pep Guardiola, tasking a group of senior players with policing the dressing room and ensuring everyone adheres to the team's standards. This group includes experienced players who are responsible for maintaining discipline and fostering a cohesive team spirit.
Amorim's commitment to building a long-term legacy at Manchester United is evident in his words and actions. While acknowledging the need for positive results, he is focused on creating a culture of success and guiding the club back to its former glory.
