Tomorrow, June 6, 2025, and Saturday, June 7, 2025, will see bank closures in various parts of India due to the observance of Eid-ul-Ad'ha (Bakrid) and Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha). The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that both public and private sector banks will remain closed for these holidays in certain states. Additionally, Sunday, June 8, 2025, will be a nationwide bank holiday.

Specific Closures on June 6 & 7

  • June 6, 2025 (Friday): Banks in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will be closed in observance of Eid-ul-Ad'ha (Bakrid).
  • June 7, 2025 (Saturday): Banks across India will be closed for Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha) except in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram. This is because June 7 is the first Saturday of the month.

Why the Closures?

These closures are in accordance with the RBI's holiday schedule for June 2025. Eid-ul-Ad'ha, also known as Bakrid, is an important Islamic festival commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It is a day of special prayers and animal sacrifice in the Muslim community.

RBI Guidelines & June Bank Holidays

The RBI has designated a total of 12 bank holidays in June 2025, encompassing regional and national holidays, as well as the customary weekly offs on the second and fourth Saturdays, and Sundays.

Other June Holidays:

Beyond Eid-related holidays, banks will also be closed for the following observances in specific states:

  • June 11, 2025 (Wednesday): Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti/Saga Dawa (Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh)
  • June 27, 2025 (Friday): Ratha Yatra/Kang (Rathajatra) (Odisha and Manipur)
  • June 30, 2025 (Monday): Remna Ni (Mizoram)

Continued Digital Banking Services

Despite the physical bank branch closures, online banking services will remain operational. Customers can continue to use net banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATMs for their transactions. However, certain services governed by the Negotiable Instruments Act, such as cheque clearing and promissory note processing, might experience delays during this period.

Impact on Customers

Customers planning to visit a bank branch are advised to check the holiday schedule to avoid inconvenience. Knowing the specific holiday observances in your state can help you plan your banking activities accordingly. While digital banking offers a convenient alternative for many transactions, understanding potential delays in cheque clearing and other specific services is crucial for financial planning.
