Manchester United's pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has hit a snag, while Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal for Christian Norgaard, also from Brentford.

Mbeumo's Transfer Decision and Man Utd's Stance

Bryan Mbeumo has reportedly made his preference clear: he wants to join Manchester United. Despite interest from Tottenham, now managed by his former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, Mbeumo has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford. However, negotiations between Manchester United and Brentford have been challenging. United have had a second bid, worth £62.5 million, rejected by Brentford. This improved offer matched what United paid for Matheus Cunha, who joined earlier in June. Brentford are holding out for a fee closer to £65 million. Despite the rejected bids, talks are continuing, with Mbeumo eager to join United. United are keen to finalize the deal to have Mbeumo join the squad for pre-season training on July 7.

Mbeumo's potential arrival is seen as a significant boost to United's attack. Last season, he scored 20 Premier League goals and provided seven assists for Brentford. His work rate is also highly valued, as he covered significant distance and attempted numerous sprints, ranking among the league's hardest grafters. Mbeumo's ability to deliver crosses is another asset, topping the league in that statistic last season.

However, some reports suggest the Mbeumo deal might drift into next week. Manchester United are also reportedly considering other options, including Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Arsenal's Move for Norgaard

Arsenal have reportedly agreed a fee with Brentford to sign midfielder Christian Norgaard. The fee is reported to be an initial £10 million plus add-ons, potentially rising to £15 million. Personal terms have been agreed, and a medical is scheduled.

Norgaard is expected to bring experience and leadership to Arsenal's midfield. At 31 years old, he offers a wealth of Premier League experience, having made 122 appearances for Brentford. He is also known for his set-piece prowess.

Arsenal's move for Norgaard comes as they look to reinforce their midfield following the expected departure of Thomas Partey, whose contract expires at the end of the month. Norgaard is viewed as a replacement for Jorginho, who departed for Flamengo earlier this month. Arsenal are also reportedly close to signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

The signing of Norgaard is seen as a move to mitigate the loss of experience in midfield and allows Arsenal to hold back funds for attacking recruits.

Brentford's Response and Other Transfer Activity

With the expected departures of key players like Mbeumo and Norgaard, Brentford are actively looking to bolster their squad. They are reportedly close to signing Feyenoord midfielder Antoni Milambo for an initial £17 million plus bonuses.

Brentford have also appointed Keith Andrews as their new head coach, replacing Thomas Frank, who joined Tottenham. Andrews was previously the club's set-piece coach.

These changes mark a significant transition for Brentford, who are preparing for their fifth consecutive season in the Premier League.
