The recent box office clash between "Saiyaara," "Son of Sardaar 2," and "Dhadak 2" has sparked considerable discussion within the Bollywood film industry and among moviegoers. "Saiyaara," a romantic drama, continues to demonstrate a strong performance even into its third week, while the other two films are newly released sequels from different genres. Mrunal Thakur, who stars in "Son of Sardaar 2" alongside Ajay Devgn, has expressed her thoughts on the competition, acknowledging the challenges and uncertainties that come with such a situation.

"Son of Sardaar 2" is an action comedy that sees Ajay Devgn returning in the lead role, supported by a cast including Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Neeru Bajwa, and Deepak Dobriyal. The film is directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and produced by Ajay Devgn FFilms and Jio Studios. Meanwhile, "Dhadak 2," starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is considered a spiritual successor to the 2018 film "Dhadak".

According to a report on August 1, 2025, "Son Of Sardaar 2" recorded a morning occupancy of 10.24%, which is on par with movies like "Sky Force" and "Fateh," but lower than "Saiyaara". "Dhadak 2" led in morning occupancy with 15.02%. By Day 6 of release, "Son of Sardaar 2" had grossed ₹29.88 crore in India, while "Dhadak 2" had earned ₹14.51 crore.

Adding to the complexity of the box office dynamics, "Mahavtar Narsimha," an animated mythological film, has also performed strongly, exceeding the collections of both "Son of Sardaar 2" and "Dhadak 2" on its eighth day.

Mrunal Thakur recently shared an Instagram post expressing gratitude for the audience's support of "Son of Sardaar 2". This post has fueled rumors about a potential relationship between her and actor Dhanush, especially after Dhanush attended the film's premiere in Mumbai.

Shubhra Gupta, in her review of "Dhadak 2" for The Indian Express, noted the film's engagement with contemporary social issues such as casteism, classism, feminism, and gender identities.
