Following an attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public hearing on August 20, 2025, Delhi Police have significantly increased her security. The enhanced security measures include a two-layered protection detail.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has also revised the Chief Minister's security arrangements. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will now manage the inner security ring, while Delhi Police personnel will handle the outer perimeter. The Chief Minister has been accorded 'Z' category security cover by the MHA, entitling her to six Personal Security Officers (PSOs) from the CRPF, who were previously drawn from the Delhi Police. Other components of the security detail, including escorts, watchers, and eight static armed guards, will remain unchanged and continue to be manned by Delhi Police personnel. CRPF personnel will also remain deployed at her residence. The CM will continue to have 'Z-plus' category security from the Delhi Police Headquarters. Overall, Delhi Police has deployed 40 personnel for Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's security.

The attack occurred at the Chief Minister's Civil Lines camp office during a "Jan Sunwai" (public hearing). The accused, Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakriya, 41, from Rajkot, Gujarat, allegedly approached her with some papers and attacked her around 8:30 am, shortly after the meeting began. He was arrested and sent to five-day police custody.

In the wake of the attack, the Delhi Police have intensified their investigation. Investigators are seeking dump data of both her personal and official residences. Dump data, which provides details of mobile tower locations, device signals, and call records, is being retrieved from telecom service providers to track the accused's movements before and during the incident. Multiple CCTV cameras around both the CM's residences are also being examined in detail. Police teams are verifying security logs, visitor entries, and deployment records to identify possible lapses and are cross-checking interrogation inputs from the accused with technical evidence.

In addition to the initial arrest, the Delhi Police have arrested another individual, Tahseen Syed, in connection with the attack. Syed, an auto driver from Rajkot, is alleged to have transferred money to the prime accused, Rajesh Khimji. Khimji had allegedly sent a video of Rekha Gupta's Shalimar Bagh residence to Syed, while the latter sent him ₹2,000 and was in constant contact with him before the attack.

Following the attack and the subsequent increase in security, a man created a ruckus at a public event for the Chief Minister, gaining entry by posing as a BJP worker. He began raising slogans before being removed by police officials.
