India has reaffirmed its support for an early resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, backing renewed peace efforts and urging constructive dialogue between all parties. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has welcomed recent initiatives aimed at establishing peace in the region, expressing hope that all parties involved will proceed constructively.

An MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that India supports an early end to the conflict and the establishment of an enduring peace. This statement comes amid a renewed push by Washington to end the war in Ukraine. India has consistently called for resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha have agreed to meet on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly later this month. This meeting follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China. During the SCO summit, Modi conveyed to Putin that India welcomes all efforts toward establishing peace in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of finding a way to resolve hostilities as soon as possible.

Prior to his meeting with Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with Modi, expressing that India is ready to make the necessary efforts and deliver the appropriate signal to Russia.

India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, addressed the UN General Assembly, emphasizing the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict. He voiced concern over the war's collateral consequences, including rising fuel prices, and noted that countries in the Global South have been left to fend for themselves. Harish also highlighted that India has been providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and economic support to countries in the Global South affected by the conflict.

India has welcomed positive developments toward resolving the conflict and has reiterated its readiness to support diplomatic efforts for an early end to the war. Harish appreciated the progress made during the summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He also noted that Prime Minister Modi's recent engagements with Ukrainian President Zelensky, Russian President Putin, and European leaders promote the chances of peace.

India has maintained that a solution to the Ukraine conflict is not possible on the battlefield. In July of last year, Modi told Putin that peace efforts cannot succeed amidst bombs and bullets. The next month, Modi visited Kyiv and conveyed to Zelenskyy that both Ukraine and Russia should sit together without wasting time to end the war.

India's commitment to peace is further underscored by its consistent advocacy for a people-centric approach, providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine while supporting economic stability for countries in the Global South affected by the conflict. India has emphasized that the wholehearted participation and commitment of all stakeholders are critical for lasting peace.
