The devastating floods in Punjab have become a battleground for political maneuvering, with the victims caught in the crossfire between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Accusations and counter-accusations are flying as each party attempts to position itself as the champion of the people, while critics argue that the focus should be on providing relief and long-term solutions rather than political point-scoring.

Congress leaders Bhupesh Baghel and Gurjeet Singh Aujla have criticized the state and union governments for their handling of the crisis, alleging inaction and failure to provide adequate information and relief to those affected. Baghel, the Congress's Punjab in-charge, claimed that authorities were not providing information about crop damage, loss of life, or livestock. He also stated that no relief material was being provided to flood-hit areas by the state government and questioned the insensitivity of the state and central governments, noting the Prime Minister's silence on the issue. Congress has been dispatching relief trucks to affected areas, highlighting their efforts to assist the victims. Partap Singh Bajwa, Leader of Opposition in Punjab, has condemned both the AAP government in Punjab and the BJP-led Union Government, accusing them of criminal negligence, corruption, and hypocrisy in handling the floods.

The BJP, on the other hand, has blamed illegal mining for exacerbating the flood situation. BJP's Tarun Chugh claimed that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) help comes from the center. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that illegal sand mining was to blame for the floods. However, AAP spokesperson Neel Garg questioned why Punjab was being singled out, as floods also affected Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Haryana. Garg also criticized the BJP for blocking ₹60,000 Cr of Punjab's funds and questioned the Prime Minister's silence on the floods.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced ₹5 crore assistance to Punjab's CM Relief Fund. Punjab Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond defended the Mann-led state government, asserting that ration and medicines were being provided and that the administration stands with the victims. Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal stated that the floods were a natural disaster and not the right time for political games. Goyal countered the illegal mining claims, stating that the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) admitted that the water level of dams increased due to more rain than expected in Himachal Pradesh and other areas.

The Punjab government has also been criticized for postponing a cabinet meeting on the floods due to an "internal rift" and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's hospitalization. Former CM Charanjit Singh Channi took a swipe at the AAP government, stating it was "sick and hospitalised".

The political blame game has intensified, with each party attempting to shift responsibility and gain political mileage from the crisis. Accusations of inaction, negligence, and corruption have been traded between the parties, further muddying the waters and distracting from the urgent need for effective relief and rehabilitation efforts. The situation has devolved into a political spectacle, with the real victims – the flood-affected people of Punjab – often overlooked amidst the noise and fury of political posturing.
